Dear Mr. Lim,

I was forwarded your abovecaptioned article yesterday and wish to commend you on the issues which you succinctly laid out.

I agree whole heartedly with your arguments on sustainable development and can only wish that more people in the local government are of like mind. Policies such as affordable housing and increase density cannot exist on its own. There has to be an approach that takes into account all the objectives of development which hopefully includes developing Georgetown into a livable city and not just another concrete jungle.

At the moment, the approach seems to be that of "any development is better than nothing" or "we need to sacrifice for increase economic activity". I believe if there is a laudable objective, then the government should work towards it and ensure rules are in place to achieve said objective. If the attitude is "we need to sacrifice" then no one is going to spend the extra money or time to find the answers for it is easier for the developer to say that it is impossible.

The result of which is the Penang people should sacrifice but the extra profit goes to the developer.

Please continue your good work to make our local government more aware!

Regards, SK Ang
